Cecil Foods - Sri Lanka

Cecil Foods are based in Avissawella in Central Sri Lanka. Here they run a well established fruit canning, drying & juice making business processing pineapples, bananas, papaya, passion fruit and mangoes. They also process cashews, coconuts and various spices. Cecil Foods is organically certified by SKAL, and is also HACCP certified. All dried fruits are vacuum packed and nitrogen flushed.

Cecil buy fresh fruits from more than 1300 farmers who are organised into groups of 10 to 15. All farmers are trained in organic farming and good farming practices by a Cecil agricultural extension worker. Extension workers are also able to provide some prefinancing to farmers, as well as plant suckers and seeds at cost.

All fruit drying is conducted at the Avissawella factory.

In 2005, Tropical Wholefoods purchased their first container of dried papaya and banana from Cecil Foods.
